At Independence Women’s Clinic, we also offer midwifery services. Our certified nurse-midwifes’ (CNM’s) goals for optimal patient care align with our obstetrician-gynecologists. We find value in providing high-quality, holistic and patient-centered care. Every visit and plan of care is individualized to fit each patient’s needs.
Midwives are commonly associated with pregnancy and postpartum care – however, CNMs are also able to provide care to women across their lifespan. Our CNM’s appointment-types include (but are not limited to):
- Contraceptive management
- Annual well woman exams
- Prenatal
- Postpartum
- Lactation
- Minor gynecology problems
- Small procedures
- Intrauterine device insertions
- Endometrial biopsies
There are many features of midwifery care, including:
- Longer prenatal appointments
- Low-risk pregnancy
- Low-intervention birth
- Understanding of normal physiologic birth
- Extended care at the bedside during the labor and delivery process
- Ability to acknowledge the need for intervention during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum and doing so expeditiously as appropriate
- Continuously collaborating with supervising physicians when high-risk situations arise
We added our first midwife for the practice in 2023. Feel free to find out more and schedule with Emily Martinez, CNM.
